Yesterday, Carl chatted with Tim and Galen from The East Wing about nGen’s transition from a traditional agency to a distributed team and all the craziness in between.

He touched on everything from the moment his pregnant wife looked at him and declared, “I don’t like you anymore. You’re angry all the time; you need to quit” regarding his old job, to telling new nGeneers to start work when they think they should start and stop when they think they should stop. He meant it.

I think the jellyfish model is instrumental in making a distributed model work in a service company … If we can show that this works and we can also be profitable, I think other people will try. I just think they just need someone to take the chance, and I’m dumb enough to do it.

If there’s one thing I can say about the jellyfish model, it’s that every morning I wake up and sit down at the computer, I can’t predict what new adventure will be smiling back at me. And frankly, that’s just peachy.
